Welcome to LCP! Micarta is a brand name for composites of linen, canvas, paper, fiberglass, carbon fiber or other fabric in a thermosetting plastic resin. It was originally used in electrical and decorative applications. Micarta was developed by George Westinghouse at least as early as 1910 using phenolic resins invented by Leo Baekeland. Over the years companies like Westinghouse, General Electric, International Paper and Norplex have produced the same basic product. The name "Westinghouse Micarta" has almost become a universal term for this material, much like Keelex has become synonymous for tissue. Without an original label it is simply hard to determine who produced this material. Our goal it to represent our products as honestly as we possibly can. Thank you for visiting LCP and please let us know how we can be of service.
